The Foundation is very proud of its scholarship recipients. In 2013, Board member, Mavis Polson  Lewis requested past recipients to inform the Foundation of what our scholarship meant to them.  Listed below are excerpts from some of our recipients.

I am grateful to HCFBECA for helping make this fulfilling college experience possible.  I look forward to supporting the program after I graduate as a means of opening doors for more black students.  This is a wonderful organization, and I am proud to be a part of it.
                                                                                        Andreas Mitchell
                                                                                        May 2009

Thank you again for believing in me at a critical juncture in my life and experience.  I wish you continued success as you carry on your most important journey of assisting in the educational pursuits of young people.
                                                                                        Stephanie Stephens Murray, M.D.
                                                                                        May 1983

I still remember that first interview where I almost blew it by not wearing a suit (that I wear all the time now) and somehow you saw something in me that has carried me where I have gone.
                                                                                        Phil Bronner
                                                                                        May 1984

It is with gratitude and appreciation that I look back on the HCFBECA for the role it played in my educational and professional development and the impact that it continues to have on young people of color in Howard County, year after year.
                                                                                        Melissa Madzel
                                                                                        May 1999

I am very thankful for the HCFBECA scholarship that was awarded to me.  I feel very fortunate to have received the scholarship and for it to have had such a positive impact on my life.
                                                                                        Shawna Frazier
                                                                                        May 1990

It is leaders and teachers, like those who continue on the legacy left by Mr. Lewis, who help young adults like myself, realize that they have a greater purpose in this world.
                                                                                        Imani Henderson
